Altar servers exercise a special liturgical ministry when, by helping the Priest, they facilitate the smooth running of the celebration of the Eucharist.
Boys and girls aged 8 onwards may apply for training provided that they have received their First Holy Communion. Training sessions are normally held each Autumn. Once serving, boys and girls aim to be enrolled into the world-wide "Guild of St. Stephen" (formed 1905). Serving is a high privilege and bestows a secret joy. Men are also welcome, especially those who may have served in their youth.
